5/13/2023 0 Comments Aftershock book sylvia dayThat time passed and he couldn't let go, not until his family began to intervene. When he meets Gia he can't get her off his mind, and he decides just a few months will be all he has. His parents had a terrible relationship, one that he was determined never to end up in. Jax is the son of a wealthy and influential family. Gia went after this position after her heart and dreams had been shattered and she figured how could she lose? I loved that her mentor understood heartbreak and was willing to help because she didn't want Gia to make the same mistakes as her. Gia now works again in New York for a well known and highly sought after curator, a former chef who had expanded beyond the kitchen to creating world-class restaurants and talent management. She also came from a close-knit family who had her back whenever she needed them to. I loved Gia especially because she's a native NYer and she made something of herself despite the belief that she wouldn't be able to handle the world she was going for. I went into this knowing nothing and I'm glad I did because I blew through this without any expectations and fell in love with the characters very quickly. I fell into this story and didn't come up for four hours until it was done. I should have known it would be phenomenal because Sylvia wrote it. Well if I'd have known how good this was I would have read it a long time ago.

My heart warmed, raced, and broke as I went through a whole spectrum of emotion while I read. The Mafia and His Angel, Part 2 was darker, bloodier, and more emotional than its predecessor. That man wants her back, and he won’t stop until he gets what he wants. As if that’s not bad enough, Ayla is engaged to an evil and sadistic man her father handed her over to as soon as she turned sixteen. Ayla’s father is Alessio’s mother's killer. Little did he know, the woman he fell for was the daughter of his greatest enemy. She burrowed her way into his heart, and that is where she would stay. Alessio didn’t think he was even capable of that emotion, but Ayla proved him wrong. Don’t get too comfortable with the sweet nothings and stolen kisses, because shit is about to get real!Īlessio did the one thing his father warned him would be his undoing. The Mafia and His Angel, Part 2 is the continuation of Alessio and Ayla’s complicated love story, and it completely exceeded my expectations! I will admit that the beginning seemed a little too lovey dovey at times, but once I saw what the author had in store, everything made so much sense. 5/12/2023 0 Comments The Gift by Joanne Clancy“When you go through deep waters I will be with you.” “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.” “All our infirmities, whatever they are, are just opportunities for God to display his gracious work in us.” “Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.” “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…It’s about learning to dance in the rain.” “Barn’s burnt down - Now I can see the moon.” “Some people cannot be cured, but everyone can heal.” “Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see.” “Once you choose hope, anything’s possible.” “Hope is praying for rain, but faith is bringing an umbrella.” Many of these quotes were recommended by our own CaringBridge community! Here, Smith uses molars to reflect that the twins "digest" their father's actions and are therefore destined to follow in his footsteps. In the chapter entitled "Molars," Magid and Millat catch Samad with Poppy as they bite into apples with their white teeth. Metaphorically, they help us process the information we take in and turn it into our own actions. Molars are the grinding teeth, which help us digest our food. Alsana likens the Chalfens' influence on Millat and Irie to the Chalfens ripping the children apart, destroying the qualities in them that are important to their own parents. In a positive sense, they allow us to experience the sensuous things life offers, while in a negative sense, they are a predator's teeth and thus are threatening. For example, canines are "the ripping teeth" involved in an initial bite. The actions of specific teeth represent the way we experience life. Therefore, teeth leave a particularly long legacy and connect people throughout time. By the same token, they are enduring and preserved in the skull long after we die. Teeth are white no matter what a person's race, making them a universal symbol of humanity. Throughout the novel, teeth symbolize people. |
